| Gregor Zubicky, who is one of the leading soloists of Johannesburg's Jeppe Boys' Choir, is a Swedish boy of 14 years who has already had a very interesting life. When only two years old he accmpanied his mother to Vienna where she was studying at the State Opera School - sitting in the empty auditorium, listening to the teachers and singers - and from then on his childhood was filled with travels, rehearsals and premiers both in Germany and Sweden. He first went to school in Germany. Circumstances suddenly transplanted him from this world where only his music and singing existed, to an Australian farm in the rugged mountains in New South Wales. There he spent three wild years and although not older than nine he had to work as hard as a man, doing his schoolwork by correspondence and spending most hours of the day on horseback, mustering cattle and sheepand helping with all the labour. Although these were very hard years where a man's strength and responsibility were demanded of him, he was a very happy boy, spending his day singing in the saddle of his horse, Jimmy - or making up songs of his own for his favourite black hen, sitting oblivious to the world in the corner of the chicken yard while dusk was falling and everybody calling him for some last takes to be done. When his family moved to South Africa, Gregor continued his singing in the Drakensburg Boys' Choir under the teaching of his mother and Desmond Wright. From the rough songs of Australia and his worn old riding boots, he now wears the white collar of the Jeppe Boys' Choir and sings solo ranging from folk songs to German lieder for audiences all over the country.
