Gerard Barbeau was a popular boy soprano in Canada in the mid fifties. Gerard Barbeau was born in Verdun, Canada and began singing at the age of 6 years. At eleven years old he had mastered many of the works for boy soprano and became a popular artist on Radio for the next three years. he went on tour to Europe and sang in France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Swizerland and in the Vatican.
At 14 years of age Gerard played the lead role in the film 'Le Rossignol et les cloches' (The nightingale and the bells). After his voice broke he studied Theology. Unfortunately he became ill and died at the early age of 24. A book about his short life called 'UNE VIE INACHEVÉE' was published in 1982. more info in french

Gérard Barbeau est né a Verdun. Il commence l'étude du chant à l'âge de 6 ans.
À 11 ans, il maîtrise déjà un répertoire imposant de soprano colorature. Pendant trois ans, il chante au poste de radio CKVL et sa renommée rayonne sur tout le Québec. Au cours d'une tournée en Europe, il chante en France, en Belgique, en Hollande, au Luxembourg, en Suisse, en Italie et au Vatican. À 14 ans il joue le rôle-titre dans le film Le Rossignol et les cloches. Chose surprenante, au moment des humanités, Gérard abandonne sa brillante carrière pour s'adonner intensément aux études qui le conduiront à la théologie. Alors que tous les espoirs lui sont permis, une impitoyable maladie l'emporte: il a 24 ans. Cette vie a été brusquement interrompue, un peu comme un oiseau qui se heurte contre la vitre en voulant prendre son envol. C'est cette vie pleine d'énigmes et de mystères que l'auteur fait revivre, accompagnant son récit de nombreuses photos d'époque.
