Aled Jones was born on December 29, 1970, in Llandegfan, Anglesey. At 9 years of age he was accepted as a chorister at Bangor Cathedral Choir. He won first prize in several singing  competitions for young people including the
Urdd Eisteddfod competition (under 12s) in 1982. It was at this time that he was taken by Hefina Orwig Evans to Sain records. His first album entitled Diolch  Chân (Song of Thanksgiving - later released as 'Where e're you walk) was a great success and led to Aled being chosen as a soloist in the BBC2 recording of Handel's oratorio 'Jephtha' at St. Davids Hall, Cardiff and thereafter in the BBC Wales project in The Holy land, the album of which established Aled Jones as a major recording artist.

Angela Pope, who was researching for a film about the treble voice, heard him on the radio.
Aled was immediately recruited to play the star role in this 3 part documentary about a choirboy who had risen to be a recording star. This award winning documentary focusing on Aled's private life as well as his singing enchanted his many fans and was to put him under the spotlights until his voice broke.

This did not happen for another 18 months when Aled was 16. During this time Aled made A Royal Gala Performance in front of the Queen, a solo in Andrew Lloyd Webbers's Requiem  and performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in front of 27,000 people at the Hollywood Bowl. During all this time he was recording almost continuously and has a discography larger than that of any other treble soloist. Out of all his recordings he will be remembered most for his hit single 'Walking in the Air' although it was not his version that appeared on the film's soundtrack.
